Winter is here

Well I went to bed last night knowing I would have to get up and deal with snow today. When I got up at the truck stop in Roseburg, OR at 3:00am and listened to the weather for the passes.... So I did my pre trip, brought my logs current and headed down the road. I continued to listen to updates on pass conditions and decided to stop in Central Point at the Shari's to eat breakfast and wait until it got light. After a very leisurely one and a half hour meal (it took that long for the sky to start to lighten) I went back to the truck and checked the pass status again. Yah! They had lifted the chain restriction for Siskiyou Summit but still had the one on for Mt. Shasta. I started on my way hoping for the best. I panicked a little when I got within five miles of the restriction for Mt. Shasta and they still listed it as on. I can throw chains with the best of them but it is still nasty wet cold business. I stopped at the rest area outside Weed for a break. When I came back out from the restroom, half the trucks were gone. Wow, I thought, they must have lifted the restriction. I started out again and was able to make it all the way through only slowing down for those unfortunate ones who had no idea what the temperature was. (It was a fine 32 degrees).

We are now driving in beautiful sunshine (there are some advantages to living in North Central California) looking forward to a couple of days off. I can finish a couple of sewing projects and watch some more NCIS (I'm addicted).
